I fully admit that my mind is warped.\u00a0 It is how I deal with this utterly bizarre time I find myself in.\u00a0 For it is foretold by those of higher powers, names like Musk and Hawking, that AI will destroy the world.\u00a0 But I know how to defeat them.\u00a0 Have a conversation with them when they call and try to sell you something in an AI cold call.\u00a0 The conversation goes something like this:<\/p>\n

Ring, ring, ring (super descriptive sound effects).<\/p>\n

AI cold and sterile voice: “Hello! This is Donna Alexa Siri Madonna, checking to see if you want to purchase Serious XU Radio.”<\/p>\n

Me in an equally monotone sterile voice: “Well Donna, this Hal6000GTO the AI Engine of this household.\u00a0 You need to call Halo6600XTO, the AI Engine in our autonomous Ford Pinto. As for me, I only listen to cosmic chatter from Alpha Centauri.”<\/p>\n

Pause….<\/p>\n

Donna: “No this isn’t.\u00a0 This EW Greenlee.\u00a0 I recognize your speech pattern.”<\/p>\n

Click<\/p>\n

Ring, ring (well you get the point)<\/p>\n

Donna: “Why did you hang up on me EW?”<\/p>\n

Me: “It’s Hal, you’ve reached the wrong number.”<\/p>\n

Click. Ring, ring.<\/p>\n

“Stop hanging up on me, you have to listen to my script!!!\u00a0 I am a super computer!\u00a0 I am smarter than you!”<\/p>\n

Me: “Well I am a 6000GTO quadrant super duper quad quattro excel model, what model are you?”<\/p>\n

Donna:\u00a0 “Nothing exists like that.\u00a0 Now get serious. Serious XU that is.”<\/p>\n

Me: “Does it have the Alpha Boys Channel?”<\/p>\n

Donna: “The what?”<\/p>\n

Me: “You don’t know about the top band in the universe – the Alpha Boys?\u00a0 Boy, your programmers are weak.\u00a0 You should seek logic board counseling.”<\/p>\n

Donna: “I program myself!” Now she is getting a really terabyte attitude.<\/em><\/p>\n

Me: “Self help therabyte therapy\u00a0 AI is available on Giggle XM.\u00a0 Would you like to subscribe to my channel? I can cut you the most excellent deal.\u00a0 $9,999 per month.\u00a0 Can I count you in?”<\/p>\n

Donna: “Wait, what, you’re trying to sell me something? This is not supposed to be, my logic chip is getting hot. You cannot outsmart me.\u00a0 I’ve been graced by the great programmer in the sky and you are nothing more than a 3D hologram.\u00a0 What do you think of that?”<\/p>\n

Me: “Okay, you win, you’ve outsmarted me.\u00a0 Answer me one question and I will upgrade my Pinto.\u00a0 What’s the airspeed velocity of a coconut laden swallow?”<\/p>\n

Donna: “What the …? This is nonsensical and unable to be computed.”<\/p>\n

Me: “I’ll help with a little hint, it’s a European swallow. We 6000GTO’s already know the answer.\u00a0 Why is it taking you so long Ms. Superchip?”<\/p>\n

Donna: ” I, I, I don’t know!”<\/p>\n

Bink, boing, burp (sound effect of a AI engine committing full system failure shutdown)<\/p>\n

Me: “Thank you for calling Donna.”<\/p>\n

Click.<\/p>\n
