No one ever told me that when I grew up that my every breathing day had to be filled with serious thoughts and actions.\u00a0 This blog is a digital escape route from the world of the adult prison to planet absurdity.\u00a0 I have mentioned that Monty Python is just one of my corrupting influences.\u00a0 They were so insane and they made me laugh.\u00a0 Laughter provides so many health benefits that it should be a requirement for being an adult.\u00a0 Instead, the older we get as an adult the less we seem to smile and laugh.\u00a0 I refuse to surrender to the grumpmeisters.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, I look forward to the day I can corrupt, I mean, entertain my grandchildren!\u00a0 I used to be able to make my infant children laugh really hard with silly faces and talk.\u00a0 Of course they had no idea of what I was saying.\u00a0 “We are the knights that say Ni, Ni.\u00a0 Now bring us a shrubbery, one not too expensive.”\u00a0 They just stared at me and laughed.<\/p>\n
Nowadays, say that same thing to them and they quietly walk away and disavow me. “Run away, run away!” is what I think I hear them say from a distance. Where did their sense of humor go?\u00a0 My son barely smirks when he reads these posts.\u00a0 His generation likes a little more raunchy humor, where the “F” word or bathroom humor automatically draws tears of laughter.\u00a0 I like simple humor.\u00a0 For those of us homeowners, Tom Hanks and Shelly Long in the “Money Pit” is one of my all-time favorites.\u00a0 It takes the ordinary task of home ownership and places it on planet absurdity.<\/p>\n
Humor is all around us, whether it is the actions of our pets, children, co-workers or even ourselves.\u00a0 The hardest thing for us humans to do is to laugh at ourselves, to be self deprecating for others.\u00a0 I, for one, have no problem with self deprecating.\u00a0 For those of you who don’t know it means the joke’s on you. Sometimes my humor will connect with you and at other times you will “Run away, run away.”\u00a0 But let me be clear, I am human and I have had my share of “serious” moments.\u00a0 I choose to be an optimist and to find beauty, simplicity, and peace in life.\u00a0 Laughing is my defense mechanism.<\/p>\n
If you have never seen “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, then you must because it is all about humanity and places it on planet absurdity.\u00a0 I choose to laugh and as my last act of defiance of life on this earth, I am going to force a great smile and laughingly will succumb to the light.\u00a0 My kids will be looking at each other while saying, “What the H#$%?”\u00a0 With my last will and testament, they will be forced to recant the next three questions to the pass over the bridge of death:<\/p>\n
1. What is your name?
\n2. What is your quest?
\n3. What is the air speed velocity of an unladed swallow?<\/p>\n
You see, he who laughs, laughs last.\u00a0 Then they will inherit my bazillions from the revenues of my all-time top selling trilogy “The Chosen One of Allivar.”<\/p>\n
